The annual parade marking the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, in Georgetown. The parade, organized by the Howard High School Alumni Association, begins at 11 a.m. at the Beck Center on Church Street and will run along Merriman Road to the Howard Center in the West End community.
Parade line up starts at 10 a.m. Following the parade, a festival will be held at the Howard Center, located at the corner of Hawkins and Kaminski streets.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a national holiday recognized this year on Monday, Jan. 18. King’s birthday is Jan. 15, and the global icon would’ve turned 92 this year. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968, while in Memphis, Tenn., supporting sanitation workers who were on strike.
