Georgetown
Golf Courses

Located on the outskirts of Georgetown, Wedgefield Country Club is a semi-private facility that showcases the area’s Lowcountry beauty on and off the course.

Wedgefield plays through stunning live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, magnolia trees and azaleas before concluding along the banks of the Black River. The scenery is complemented by the classic design work of Porter Gibson and Bob Toski, who allowed the layout to follow the natural contours of the land.

The opening nine is largely flat, playing through tree-lined fairways, before the land begins to roll as golfers approach the water, showcasing an environment that once made Wedgefield home to one of South Carolina’s most profitable indigo and rice plantations.

That sense of history is part of the experience at Wedgefield, as are the amenities that accompany the golf course. Their new pro shop and Brick House Pub, each now offering check-in, retail and food/beverage services in newly appointed buildings separate from Wedgefield’s main building; and renovated cabins that now offer a compelling “stay and play” option for visiting golfers looking for a home lodging base for their South Strand golf getaway.

The club is also home to an active tennis community and a swimming pool that can be a social hub for the entire family.

Wedgefield is Georgetown’s “home” course, but it’s hardly the county’s only layout. The Waccamaw Golf Trail, a collection of 12 of South Carolina’s premier courses, is only a few miles north of historic Georgetown.

To put the quality of the Waccamaw Golf Trail’s offerings into perspective, four of the 12 courses – Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Golf Club, TPC Myrtle Beach and Heritage Club – have been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest, and 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus designed Pawleys Plantation.

Whether you want to play a top 100 course or you are looking for a value-laden layout, Georgetown has something for every golfer.
