2nd annual cook-off to benefit Saint Frances Animal Center

Georgetown-based Saint Frances Animal Center will host the second annual She-Crab Soup Cook-Off Sunday, Feb. 23.

The event will be held from 2-5 p.m. at Quigley’s Next Door, 251 Willbrook Blvd. in the Litchfield Community of Pawleys Island. Proceeds will go to the animal center.

Attendees will be able to sample she-crab soup, a Palmetto State delicacy, from 12 local businesses by purchasing tickets in advance or at the door. Tickets purchased on Feb. 23 will cost $2 – each ticket will buy a 2-ounce serving of soup – or a book of 24 will be available for $20.

There are also a pair of pre-event packages available online through Feb. 21, including 26 tickets for $20 deal, or a $40 package that includes 26 tickets and a long-sleeve Saint Frances She-Crab Soup Cook-Off T-shirt. You can purchase a pre-package here.

Among the restaurants scheduled to participate are Alfresco Bistro, Buzz’s Roost, Dead Dog Saloon, Gulfstream Cafe, Harrelson’s Seafood, Inlet Affairs, Natural Born Grillers, Pawleys Island Raw Bar, Quigley’s Pint and Plate, Rustic Table, Wicked Tuna and last year’s popular-choice winner, Hanser House.

While the she-crab soup is the primary draw, it’s hardly the only one. The Paul Grimshaw Duo will be performing and a host of local celebrities will be judging the competition.

Among the judges are a trio of personalities from WPDE – Ed Piotrowski, Trey Paul and Crystal Costa – along with WMBF’s Jamie Arnold and Jamie Sanderson, the publisher of Georgetown Foodland.

All proceeds will benefit Saint Frances and its mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for abandoned and mistreated dogs and cats until they can be placed in loving homes.
